The Astroparticle Physics group was formed in 2006 in response to a widely recognised need for distinct UK representation in this rapidly expanding field. By its very nature, Astroparticle Physics is highly multidisciplinary, and includes topics such as direct and indirect detection of dark matter, high energy cosmic ray studies, neutrinoless double beta decay, cosmological neutrinos and nuclear astrophysics.
To reflect the strong scientific overlaps that exist with high energy particle physics, gravitational waves, astronomy and nuclear physics, the Group sits within the Division of Nuclear and Particle Physics, and has formal links and representation with the High Energy Physics group of the Institute of Physics, and with the Royal Astronomical Society.
The activities of the Group include:
The first such meeting took place in Sheffield in May 2006, and useful links to this meeting, including downloadable talks, may be found at http://www.ph.ed.ac.uk/APP2006
Recognition of outstanding work in Astroparticle Physics, rewarded with bi-annual early-career and thesis prizes
