Vocational 'A' Level in Science Resource Directory

(September 2000 specifications)

How to use this Directory

This directory, developed as the result of an initiative taken by the professional science bodies, supports the specifications for the Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education (VCE) in Science (Vocational A level in Science), previously called Advanced GNVQ. It was put together by 4SCIENCE who would like to acknowledge the help of numerous teachers in evaluating resources. The project was made possible by financial support from the Institute of Physics and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

For each unit the specifications are given (You need to produce and What you need to learn). Each part of what the student needs to know is mapped against resources and the results shown in the resources maps.

You are advised that in this directory the assessment evidence and what you need to learn have been incorporated into a single grid. Candidates are required to present the assessment evidence as set out in the accredited specification provided by the awarding body.

Resource maps contain reference numbers for resources, such as G3, B41, C14 and P32. Details of these resources are found in the four sections: General resources (G), Biology resources (B), Chemistry resources (C) and Physics resources (P).

General textbooks for advanced level science are listed under biology, chemistry and physics. There is also a list of useful addresses and contact numbers for resources referred to in this directory.

This is an interactive site and we are inviting people to comment on the resources listed and to suggest other resources for consideration in the directory. Please email your comments to education@iop.org.
