Ethics Committee
Terms of Reference
The role of the Committee will be to keep Council informed of developments in the ethical practice of science, to update the code of conduct accordingly, to develop appropriate teaching materials, to propose activities and initiatives that the Institute should undertake and to examine any cases of ethical misconduct that may be referred to it.
Such cases of misconduct do not necessarily have to involve members of the Institute. The Institute will only be able to act on such matters whilst the anonymity of those involved has been preserved.
The Committee should be chaired by a senior Fellow of the Institute not currently serving on Council, so it does not act as judge and jury when advising Council on cases of misconduct that could necessitate disciplinary measures.
The Committee would meet a maximum of twice a year.
